There is a shift in seeing these as social amusements only at social gatherings in the home to extracurricular activities that people do to feel fulfilled in addition to their responsibilities. Games played a big role in entertainment during the 19th century and eventually evolved to incorporate sports, hobbies and different styles of amusement, like how to spend a day at the beach. Expectations of women and girls began as a social director, how to entertain guests and be a proper host. This expectation changed to broaden a woman’s view of life within personal amusements, like playing golf, simply because someone desired to. How did women begin to create activities for themselves and not only to entertain their guests? What expectation changed?
