Munsey, publisher of the weekly Munsey's Magazine. The magazine operated out of the top six floors, while the bottom two were used for stores and shops. Following the closure of the magazine a few months later, the building was occupied as a hotel. For a brief period, Mohican Dry Goods, a department store, occupied the structure. Title A name given to the resource New London Harbor Lighthouse Description An account of the resource Constructed in 1760, the New London Harbor Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in the state of Connecticut and the fourth oldest in all of the United States. As a landmark in the “history of navigation,” it was officially registered as a National Historic Site in 1990. The preservation documentation credits its significance in the history of engineering and transportation. Although it is no longer in operation, the lighthouse today is owned by the New London Maritime Society, a member of the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act program.
