                  <text>Constructed in 1760, the New London Harbor Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in the state of Connecticut and the fourth oldest in all of the United States. As a landmark in the “history of navigation,” it was officially registered as a National Historic Site in 1990. The preservation documentation credits its significance in the history of engineering and transportation. Although it is no longer in operation, the lighthouse today is owned by the New London Maritime Society, a member of the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act program. </text>
