In 1864, the bank was recognized nationally and became the National Whaling Bank. Following the decline of the whaling industry in New London, the bank closed and the building was sold and became the Thames Crockery, a restaurant supply business. Shortly after, a cafe called Mugz took over the building. After changing hands once again, Muddy Waters, another cafe, took over the structure and still operates there today.
